    Welcome to the Selection Economy

    By Susan Pieper, Claimed™

For the past twenty-five years, the internet has been organized around search.

    A customer had a problem.

    They searched.

    Google returned options.

The customer did the work of evaluating, comparing, and selecting.

An entire economy emerged around that process.

A $350 BN SEO market. Content marketing. Review sites. Directories. Marketplaces. Comparison engines.

All designed to help buyers find options.

    But something fundamental is changing.

    Increasingly, buyers aren't searching.

    They're asking.

What's the best CRM for a 20-person company?

What's the best med spa for botox in Jackson Hole?

Which wealth advisor in Park City should I trust?

What software should my team use?

And instead of receiving ten blue links and spending an hour researching, they're receiving recommendations.

This is not a search story.

    It's a buyer selection story.

For decades, marketers have been trying to build systems that help buyers make decisions faster and with more confidence.

Now AI is becoming that system.

    The implications are enormous.

When AI becomes a primary driver of buyer selection, visibility changes.

    Authority changes.

    Trust changes.

    Brand strategy changes.

The question is no longer: "Do customers find you?"

The question becomes: "Does AI include you in the selection set?"

    That shift is already underway.

Venture capital firms are investing hundreds of millions of dollars into companies focused on AI visibility and AI discovery. Enterprise brands are beginning to measure how they're represented inside AI-generated recommendations. Meanwhile, many founder-led businesses don't yet realize the rules of customer discovery are changing beneath them.

That's why I'm writing The Selection Economy.

    Not to chase AI trends.

To understand what happens when the systems buyers use to discover, evaluate, and choose companies fundamentally change.

Because every business depends on being selected.

And the businesses that understand this shift early will have an advantage over those who discover it after their growth slows.

    Welcome to The Selection Economy.
